Who are we?
The University of Calgary’s Department of Clinical Neurosciences proves highest clinical and scientific expertise in stroke treatment (around 1600 stroke admissions per year). We are passionate about stroke research and translating this into clinical practice.
Having conducted several multicentric trials on ischemic stroke treatment (ESCAPE, SWIFT-PRIME, INTERRSECT), as well as a meta-analysis summarizing the five major positive IATstroke trials (HERMES), the department has played a leading role in the field of stroke treatment and neurointerventional research. TheDepartment of Clinical Neurosciences is currently conducting additional multicentric international randomized controlled trials such as ESCAPE-NA1 and TEMPOII.
What is the research fellowship about?
Your research will focus on the validation of imaging tools for the use in acute ischemic stroke, with a special focuson multiphase CT angiography (mCTA), an innovative and robust imaging method that has been developed here in the Calgary Stroke Program. Your projects will focus on automatization and machine learning based image interpretation systems for acute ischemic stroke detection and therapy. You will also be involved in the development of new imaging tools to diagnose acute ischemic stroke.
What are we looking for?
You should have a medical background (e.g. radiologist, neurologist or neurosurgeon in training), or be interested in pursuing a PhD in stroke imaging research. Background knowledge of statistics and writing expertise are necessary. Basic familiarity with machine learning and computer programming is preferred however not a requirement. Independent work on projects and writing of manuscripts is essential.
